Are teeth whitening strips the right choice for you?

Whitening strips vs. your best smileTeeth Whitening Strips Peoria

Many of our Peoria patients want to know… Are over-the-counter teeth whitening strips are a good way to whiten their smiles for the New Year? The short answer is: it depends. Your dental health, the results you want, and the quality of the whitening strips you choose can all contribute to how your teeth look.

Whitening strips, teeth sensitivity, and dental work

The peroxide in whitening products like over-the-counter strips can cause sensitivity in some patients. Peroxide can penetrate the tooth enamel and irritate the nerves inside the soft dentin layer of your teeth. Usually, sensitivity is temporary.
If you have dental restorations like crowns, fillings, and veneers, we don’t recommend applying whitening strips to these areas. Whitening strips aren’t shown to be effective on discoloration from medication or injury, either.

Are whitening strips as effective as professional whitening?

For best results, make sure the whitening strips you choose have the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Crest 3D White Whitestrips (Glamorous White) are ADA-accepted as an effective at-home whitening treatment. Follow the directions as written on the label. To keep your smile looking great, continue to visit your dentist regularly.
Keep in mind the only way to know which whitening treatments are best for you is to talk to Dr. Smith. In-office whitening will result in faster, more dramatic results for patients who qualify.
And when it comes to a bright, white smile—there’s no substitute for a healthy diet, plenty of water, excellent oral hygiene habits and consistent dental visits (at least every 6 months).
